The idea behind Tala Wines was taken directly from my Filipino heritage and my Filipino mother's love for wine. I wanted to create a wine label experience that involved Filipino culture and language. Taking the native written language of the Philippines, Bisayan, I developed a logo that describes the word Star in Bisayan, said as Tala, the yellow dot in the back represents a star, much like our sun and the star used in the Filipino flag. To further develop the packing experience, I added Filipino charcuterie boards, foods, and various imagery to celebrate the heritage. The patterning used in the bottle wrap and bag was inspired by Filipino native garments. This idea was challenging to develop both in design and conceptually as I found it hard to combine contemporary design technicalities with ancient motifs, iconography, and imagery to further implement the design sound I was going for.
